Topping

Topping is the process of getting rid of the top of a pasture with a large formation of seed head by cutting it off. The main goal of topping is to induce growth and nutritional quality. By cutting off reproductive pasture, grass growth will be encouraged, and pasture quality will improve through the production of a vegetative sward.

Harrowing

Harrowing pasture reduces disease by exposing fungi and bacteria to sunlight which is essential for the health of the pasture. Timing is critical and ideally harrowing should be undertaken in dry, warm conditions, as the harrows break up and spread any droppings allowing them to dry out and kill any parasites. This is usually well suited to be done alongside rolling.

Rolling

The benefits of paddock rolling or pasture rolling help to level uneven ground that has been disturbed in the winter by grazing livestock and tracks created by tractors and vehicles. Grass is compressed during paddock rolling which makes it spread out, creating a thicker sward and preventing weeds from appearing.

Fencing Installation

The objective with any kind of agricultural fencing is to help keep farmyard animals safe and secure in their enclosures.

We can provide.

  • Farm Fencing – For protecting small farmyard animals, fresh produce and birds;
  • Wire Fencing – Including stock netting and poultry netting;
  • Agricultural Gates – Including wooden and steel gates.

Hay Making

Hay making can be used to help maintain species diversity in meadows.

Hay is cut annually, followed by a period of shutting up the meadow before aftermath grazing.

As hay is turned, tedded and dried on the field, wildflower seed can return to the meadow. This helps to retain or reintroduce a wider range of species.

You can make field dried hay on any type of grassland on flat or gently sloping ground. We conduct this for agricultural customers as well as equestrian.

No Fence Grazing

By utlising the No fence grazing system it allows us to graze pastures without adequate fencing as well as being able to graze awkward sites.

Emergency Fence Repairs

We regularly participate in emergency fence repairs for customers which includes installing damaged fencing such as gates, posts and replacing sections of wire.
